Game 1 - Matt
So we'd been paired on Comp so Matt had a 16 comp warriors army.
Wizard lord Heavens, blood tzeench, conjoined homunculus
Bsb
lvl 1 sorc, book secrets shadow
2 x 17 warriors of khorne
1 x 17 warriors of tzeench hw/s
2x 5 hounds
1 x 5 knights
1 Chariot
2 x spawn
10 x nurgle Marauder Horsemen
Heavens really worried me and the fact that if he rushed me I couldn't stop everything.
I was hoping to roll comet to try and use it in the mid ground but no doubles and no comet rolled, he rolled comet and things were afoot.
There was a large hill in the middle of the board and I deployed mostly to the left of it and greatswords on the right. He deployed mostly on the same side, with all 3 characters in the tzeench warriors. Horsemen off on my left threatening to sweep around me.
He took the first turn and advanced cautiously keeping everything outside 24" from the hellblaster except the hounds and spawn. I let him cast chain lightning to kill a few pistoliers but I put everything in to stop the comet. My turn I brought the greatswords up to protect the cannon from the hounds, my shooting/magic killed a few hounds but little else. Next turn he marched up 2 units of halberd warriors and charged the horsemen into my greatswords flank. Greatswords lost a few and killed a few, I turned to face them. However I now had a comet looming over my handgunners right near my cannon and hellblaster which had been icesharded.
With the comet coming I moved people forward a bit to get them away from it. Magic did little and comet kept on descending looking more menacing. Hellblaster rolled the magic 10 10 10 but only hit about 5 times killing about that many warriors. Cannon killed a spawn. Greatswords killed all but one horsemen and they fled, I chased but they escaped, they wouldn't return.
One unit of warriors charged the greatswords but I took the wimpy option and fled. Comet came down and killed the cannon, 9/10 handgunners, 11 halberdiers and the engineer. At this point he was still sitting in the corner with the character bus, knights and chariot.
From there I actually pushed forward hard with the knights and swordsmen as I had to get to his big points to get some points. I charged his knights with my knights who fled, I was 9" away initially and I had the steel standard, I managed to comfortably beat his roll and wiped out his knights, however I was now right next to his block of warriors, sadly I failed to reform after the charge so I was facing the wrong way.
He came forward with the chariot and warriors to face the swordsmen and halberdiers. chariot in front to try and block them. His warriors hit my greatswords and started the slaughter, I held but their fate was sealed.
I charged his chariot with just the swordsmen and faced the warriors with knights. I broke the chariot easily and restrained pursuit. The greatswords died to a man as is appropriate for them.
He chose to face the knights charge, I went in with the knights and swordsmen, I killed his bsb in combat and won by a lot, he broke and I ran him down for the final action of the game.
I'd killed everything except one block of warriors and a chariot, I'd lost the greatswords and the cannon. Ended up giving me 18-2 modified to 19-1
Good start, if he'd been more aggressive I reckon he'd have rolled over me, he just seemed a bit unsure how to get past the shooting.
Game 2 - Hamish (forget pulling comets pull the MOON!)
Orcs and Goblins
Goblin warboss on super big spider
goblin bsb
lvl 3 goblin shaman
lvl 1 goblin shaman
3xgoblin big bosses on wolves
3x40 Night goblins
3xbolt throwers
1x doom diver
2xrock lobber
Lots and lots of stuff that can hurt my knights.
3 blocks all set up to my right, 1 big boss in each block, warboss behind them, bsb in the center.
I set my pistoliers up to be the sacrificial lambs and sucker out all the fanatics. I vanguarded forward and then marched into the insanity. Fanatics came out and killed 3 of them, this lead to the oddest event I have seen, they paniced and fled toward the goblin lines, through the blocks and out the back of the warboss, in one turn I had gone 42".... now that is fast cavalry.
I pulled a comet down toward the 3 bolt throwers, this would come down on turn 6 and kill all 3.
His artillery was doing little to me, doom diver took off a few knights, his blocks all moved up.
I pulled a big comet on his blocks, and moved up for some combo charges. He backed up away from my troops meaning only the knight would have a realistic chance of charging. The comet came down and did a good amount of damage to his blocks and 2 wounds to his warboss, 14 str6 hits on his warboss and he shrugged it off with 6+ 5++, tough bugger.
I charged the knights into his BSB's unit at the center, he fled and I chose to stick at him. He was +2 so had a good chance of getting away, he only rolled a 4 so my 7 was good enough to catch him. This panicked one unit and his warboss off the board. This left him with a lvl 1 and a single block and 2 rock lobbers, from there it was just a mopping up process.
He did frog my lvl4 and stomped on him with goblins but apart from that it was a bit of a thrashing
20-0 22--2 after adjustment
Came down the the knights breaking his line, oddly enough a more shooty capable army than mine so I had to push hard and it paid off.
I was 41/40 after 2 games, I needed a draw at least to had a red hot go.
Game 3 - Nathan
Warriors of Chaos
lvl 4 Heavans
BSB
17 warriors Hw/S
17 Warriors
30ish marauders with flails
30ish marauders with great weapons
10 marauder horsemen with throwing axes
6 Chaos Knights
Chariot
I did not like the looks of this army, my plan was to break through with the knights and swords and try and get what I could.
He got first turn and roared up one flank with the knights, I put the archers in a wood near them presenting their flank to them. The rest of his army came forward at full speed. He got his comet down in the middle of my shooting.
I shuffled a bit to try and face the knights at the marauders.
He kept on coming forward fast, but gave me an opportunity by putting his chariot next to his maruaders. Comet came down and killed the hellblaster and cannon and a heap of handgunners and greatswords. Things were looking grim.
I charged his chariot with the knights and squashed it and overran behind his lines. Everyone else pulled back.
His knights charged my archers in the wood and lost a couple to dangerous terrain. He killed a heap but I was stubbon in the forest so held.
I turned the knights around facing the back of his warriors and great weapon marauders, I pushed the halberds to pressure his other marauders. He killed the last of the archers and faced the swordsmen flank.
He did a combo charge of knights and warriors on the swordsmen with my lvl 4, silly me didn't move him out from the bait unit. He killed a heap but I was steadfast and his warriors were kinda not that hard hitting.
This combat had an interesting side effect, his warrior champion was obliged to challenge and by refusing he had to send my wizard out of combat, this meant I retained my +5 dispel until for 3 more turns.
I charged his marauders with my knights and the other untit with my halberdiers, I broke both and got my halberdiers through his line to safety, my knights ran down the marauders and was set to threaten his other warriors.
Eventually my swordsmen were killed to a man leaving only the wizard to flee to sthe safety of the board edge, he woud rally and get killed on the last turn but not before helping dispel everything he could.
I'd managed to pick up his marauder blocks and lost all my shooting, swordsmen and lvl 4.
8-12 down 12-8 after adjustment
His army was well tuned to beat and army like mine, I just tried to hide as much as possible, I thought it was a good result for me.
As it turned out it was enough and I took out the event, first time since 1999. I had 3 really fun games against 3 fun guys. The comp system meant we all got to see some interestingly different combos. Definately want to do that sort of event again.

There was a little discussion to say that only the soft armies were benefitted, looking at the point spread if you halved the points handicap I still would have won quite comfortably.
